Danywood is a family-run design atelier founded in 2017 by Daniil Ivanov and Aleksei Korolkov. The project began as a small workshop — first in a garage, and later in a city apartment. From the outset, the focus was on creating functional objects for the home based on original design and proprietary technologies.
Today, Danywood works with wood as an architectural material rather than a decorative one, developing objects where form, structure, and material are treated as a single system.
Design Approach
Our work is grounded in architectural thinking. We draw on the principles of Bauhaus and organic form, prioritizing clarity of construction, proportion, and balance. Decorative effects are avoided in favor of structural logic and the physical presence of the object in space.
Several projects reference the legacy of European modernism and the Russian avant-garde, translated into utilitarian objects for everyday use. Architectural practices by Zaha Hadid, Santiago Calatrava, and Rem Koolhaas inform our approach to dynamic form and structural tension.
Materials and Engineering
We work exclusively with selected fine hardwood species, using solid wood and full slabs. Among the materials we employ are reclaimed oak boards naturally aged for over 50 years.
A key area of our expertise lies in the development of proprietary techniques for working with and stabilizing end-grain wood. These methods make it possible to work with large, structurally complex sections of timber while preserving integrity and fully revealing the natural grain pattern.
Several of our serial objects are built directly on these engineering solutions, including architectural tabletop pieces and magnetic knife stands made from single solid slabs.
Craft and Production
Despite the use of modern machinery, every object undergoes mandatory hand finishing. This allows precise control over form, edges, and surface quality — areas where machine processing inevitably standardizes the result.
Some objects are produced entirely by hand, from initial shaping to final finishing. Traces of manual work are not concealed but remain visible as part of the object’s character.
Responsibility
All wood used by Danywood is legally sourced and harvested in accordance with environmental regulations. We do not work with protected species or material from contaminated regions.
Only certified, non-toxic components suitable for direct contact with food are used. The atelier does not engage in or support child labor, forced labor, or related practices. Long-term durability and responsibility take precedence over cost reduction.
TodaySince
2017, Danywood has developed more than 200 original models and operated multiple permanent retail spaces. In 2022, the atelier relocated its activities from Russia to France, marking a new stage in its development.
Danywood continues to refine its design language, material research, and engineering solutions within a European context.
